Right now they just don't feel different enough and I could beat the entire game with one type of weapon, as opposed to Nioh 2 where each weapon would completely change your play style. ![]() I'm definitely not saying that they should have recycled the exact same system over to Wo Long, but it would have been nice to set the weapons apart a bit more. I'm less bothered by it because this system is still quite fun even after 60 hours but it does definitely leave something to be desired given how in depth Nioh 2's combat was. The combat cycle for me basically just boils down to "attack -> deflect -> spirit attack (and very situationally, martial arts because most of them have awful damage output so you're better off using spirit attack but some arts have special use like gap closer or evasive ability) and rinse and repeat. My previous complaint about the stripped down combat system still stands but I noticed that I'm a bit less bothered by it than before. NG+ provides significantly more challenge as bosses are far more aggressive and deal the kind of damage you would expect from a souls-like but this creates a problem of its own. But people seeking harder difficulty will likely be disappointed. I have never had any frustrating experience up to not (barring one absolutely ridiculous side quest in chap 4.). this game is a lot more accessible to new comers as it is by far the easiest Souls-like game I've ever played. This might not be a pro for everyone though since it will likely reduce replayability when you can get all the gear you want much earlier and easier. Crafting system drastically reduced the need to grind for hours to basically only needing to grind 4/5 stars gears and the martial arts you want for the weapons. I can switch to and from any build I want at the hub with zero cost and stunning ease so I have absolutely no reason not to try out a bunch of new playstyle/build that I likely never would have bothered in other games. Extreme ease of experimentation is something that the Fromsoft games should definitely learn from. This allows you to get your build going really really early if you just grind the bond level for 1 hour or so. ![]() I really dig the companion system where you can choose who to take with you and the fact that they give you their whole set when maxing out the affinity. I've had an absolutely blast fighting bosses like Lu Bu (very well designed and extremely satisfying fight for me). ![]() I was DEFINITELY WRONG about the combat not being smooth and fluid (when it works, like the targeting system not getting in the way, etc). I ended up enjoying the combat more than I thought I would from the demo. So I'm updating this post with my impression after finishing NG+. I initially wrote a list of my complaints about the demo, some of them ended up being not accurate or at least not as bad as I initially feared, some the same and some much worse.
